Recently, BPS Global Group has successfully established a Smart Chinese Medicine Cabinet at a hospital in Hong Kong, supporting the digitalisation and modernisation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services within a regulated clinical healthcare environment.
The project was designed according to the hospital's requirements, featuring storage for all Chinese medicines and automated dispensing operations which integrated with the hospital's backend system, allowing real-time updates of medicine names, codes, display layouts, QR codes, and the "Pick-to-Light" system. The Smart Chinese Medicine Cabinet has a traditional wooden-style exterior while its internal structure is made of durable stainless steel, with a lifespan of over ten years. It has also received Hong Kong Registered Structural Engineer certification, ensuring the cabinet remains highly stable and does not tip over even when the drawers are fully extended.
During installation, the team faced multiple challenges, including uneven floors and narrow corridors, which increased the difficulty of installing. Each cabinet module weighing approximately 400 kg. Precise horizontal and vertical alignment was critical for the final appearance. Additional challenges included fabricating the central electrical conduit to accommodate with the hospital's false ceiling grid, poor 4G network connectivity, and the manual handling of a tabletop weighing around 200 kg, requiring multiple personnel for handling and installation.
To overcome these difficulties, advanced technologies were employed. The cabinet's display units are powered by lithium batteries, eliminating complex wiring. A Windows-based GUI system with API integration enables seamless updates and configuration, while Wi-Fi connectivity ensures efficient, synchronized updates for all display units, maintaining smooth operation and integration with the hospital system.
The successful implementation of the Smart Chinese Medicine Cabinet demonstrates BPS Global Group's commitment to advancing smart healthcare technologies while preserving the clinical value and heritage of traditional Chinese medicine. The Group will continue collaborating with hospitals and healthcare institutions in Hong Kong to drive innovation, enhance patient safety, and support the sustainable development of modern TCM services.
